Welcome to the website for the village of Bruisyard in Suffolk

Bruisyard is a small rural village with a population of about 175 set in beautiful and tranquil countryside by the River Alde in East Suffolk. The village is noted for the beautiful Grade 1 listed church of St Peter's which has a round tower dating from Saxon times, and for Bruisyard Hall which was the Abbey of the Order of the Poor Clares until the reformation when an Elizabethan Manor House was built on the site. Bruisyard is also known as the setting for the novel 'Joseph and His Brethren' by H.W.Freeman first published in 1928.

Village Hall opened!

The Village Hall was opened on Saturday 24 July by Elsie Clarke and Charlie Whelan representing the most senior and youngest residents in Bruisyard. Please click here to download the article published in the East Anglian Daily Times on 26 July. The opening was part of the Bruisyard Open Weekend which included children's sports, an art exhibition, a hog roast feast, a Saturday Night Dance, 5-a-side football competition and Sunday afternoon teas. In addition to it being an enjoyable weekend, the art exhibition raised over £600 for St Peter's Church in Bruisyard and the afternoon teas raised over £130 for the Children's Hospice in Ipswich. A big thank you to everyone involved in making the weekend a success and a special thank you to Elsie Clarke and Charlie Whelan.

We are very grateful to Suffolk County Council and the London 2012 Olympics for supporting Bruisyard Open Weekend and to all the funding bodies for their financial support to build the Village Hall.

Stained glass window and plaster relief panels installed in Village Hall

The Bruisyard Open Weekend was the first public opportunity to see the amazing stained glass window made by Bruisyard artist, Sharon McMullin. The window is a wonderful depiction of the local countryside and wildlife. We are extremely grateful to Sharon for donating this amazing work of art to the Village Hall and will be greatly admired by present and future generations.

The Weekend was also the first opportunity to see the nine fantastic plaster relief panels made by Bruisyard artist, Anne Smith. The panels show past and present scenes in Bruisyard with the centre panel being the record for Bruisyard (Buresiart) in the Domesday Book. Anne has very generously donated the panels to the Village Hall. The panels are very interesting works of art in their own right but will also be a permanent record of Bruisyard for the future.
